Gold settles lower on Tuesday  

Mubasher: Gold sank at Tuesday’s settlement, as the US dollar strengthened by higher retail sales data.  

Comex August gold declined by $2.3, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,411.2 per ounce.

By 07:44 pm GMT, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the US currency against a basket of six major currencies, went up 0.50% at 97.42.

Initial official estimates showed that US retailers saw a seasonally adjusted 0.4% sales growth in June the same increase recorded in the downwardly revised reading for May, as Americans stepped up their spending.
